Magic Mushrooms vs Functional Mushrooms

Magic Mushrooms vs Functional Mushrooms

Although functional mushrooms and magic mushrooms are both from the same fungi family, they work to benefit our bodies in completely different ways. In this blog post, I am going to go through the difference between these categories of medicinal mushrooms, and provide insight into their unique benefits.

Magic Mushrooms

Despite still being illegal in many places across the globe, magic mushrooms have been used for centuries, not only for their healing benefits but for their ability to inspire self growth. Psilocybin, the active compound found in magic mushrooms induces a very intense hallucinatory state when consumed. After such an experience, many individuals claim it to be one of the single most meaningful experiences of their life, and in some cases can inspire immense change in their perspective. A newer trend in the mushroom community is to microdose. Microdosing involves taking a sub perceptual dose of psilocybin in order to experience the change this compound can inspire without having to dive in headfirst. Microdosing is not something that should make you feel high, in fact many people will take this dose before starting their work day. Users report benefits like increased creativity, focus, happiness, and connection to life. At this point, there is still so much more research that needs to be done on magic mushrooms before they become “mainstream”, however, from what we know so far, psilocybin has been shown to be very promising in its ability to aid in mental health issues and is becoming more widely accepted each day.

Functional Mushrooms

Functional mushrooms on the other hand are perfectly legal and what we sell here at Oasis. It could be generalized that if magic mushrooms help with our mental health, functional mushrooms help with our physical health. For example turkey tail is a functional mushroom that helps with immunity, while lion’s mane supports brain health. No matter what you are trying to combat, there is probably a functional mushroom that can help. That’s one of the reasons why we will be soon launching our single ingredient mushroom products. They will allow us to take in more potent doses of the specific mushroom we think we need for our bodies. In terms of our products, you could think of balance like a multivitamin and these single ingredient products as highly specific nutrients to support what we need in our current meta. Functional mushrooms will not get you high, they will just provide your body with nutrients that cannot be found anywhere other than in mushrooms.

Which one is Right for Me?

At the end of the day, both functional mushrooms and magic mushrooms have their benefits, it’s more a matter of what you currently need at this moment. As I said before, it can be generalized that magic mushrooms support mental health, whereas functional mushrooms support physical health. Personally, I start every morning with a dose of functional mushrooms as they help me unlock my natural energy by providing my body with the nutrients it needs. For me, functional mushrooms will always be a staple in my routine because they consistently provide my body with what it needs and I try to incorporate them into my diet as much as possible. Our products contain 8:1 fruiting body mushrooms which means our powders are eight times more medicinally potent than eating the mushroom itself. This makes getting your daily dose of fungi as easy as it can possibly be!
