Why is Not Coffee not completely caffeine free?
In my opinion, Not Coffee is everything coffee strives to be but infinitely better. Not only is it a much cleaner source of energy, it is littered with vitamins, minerals, and compounds that support not only the health of your body but also your stress response levels. With that, it seems I am always being asked, “Is Not Coffee caffeine free?”. Today I am going to answer that question and explain why!
Where does the caffeine come from?
In the Not Coffee formulation there is 3mg of caffeine. Compared to a cup of coffee, which has around 100mg, it is a miniscule and sub perceptual dose. Even for those extremely sensitive to the effects of caffeine, this dose is nowhere near enough to have an effect on your body.
Although it would be nice to market our formulation as completely caffeine free, we were not willing to compromise on the single ingredient that brings about this miniscule amount of caffeine. That ingredient being guarana.
What is Guarana
Guarana is a plant native to the Amazon basin of Brazil. It's a climbing plant that's also known as Paullinia cupana and is renowned for its fruit. The seeds of the guarana plant are ground into a powder to make guarana extract. Guarana has been used by Amazonian tribes for millennia for its medicinal benefits. Caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine are just a few of the stimulants found in it. Antioxidants found in guarana include tannins, saponins, and catechins.
Now that you have a brief overview of the plant, why exactly was it a necessary ingredient in our formulation?
Guarana contains a variety of antioxidant-rich chemicals. Caffeine, theobromine, tannins, saponins, and catechins are among them. Guarana, in fact, has an antioxidant profile similar to green tea. Antioxidants are crucial because they neutralize free radicals, which are potentially damaging chemicals. These molecules can interact with different portions of your cells, causing harm that has been related to aging, heart disease, cancer, and other disorders. Guarana's antioxidant effects have been shown in test tubes to inhibit cancer cell growth, as well as lessen the risk of heart disease and skin aging.
Reduce fatigue and improve focus
People who took a guarana-containing vitamin supplement felt less exhausted while completing various tasks than those who took a placebo, according to a study. Surprisingly, research reveals that guarana can relieve mental weariness caused by cancer treatment without having any negative side effects as well.
Guarana has been demonstrated to boost your capacity to learn and recall. The effects of varying dosages of guarana on mood and learning were investigated in one research. No guarana, 37.5 mg, 75 mg, 150 mg, or 300 mg were given to the participants. The people who took 37.5 mg or 75 mg of guarana had the best results on the tests. Because tiny doses of guarana yield low levels of caffeine, other chemicals in guarana, other than caffeine, are thought to be partially responsible. Guarana was compared to ginseng, another brain-boosting ingredient, in another study. Although both guarana and ginseng increased memory and test performance, guarana users paid more attention to their activities and completed them faster.
Boost in heart health
In the United States, one out of every four fatalities is caused by heart disease. Guarana has the potential to lower the risk of heart disease in two ways. To begin with, guarana's antioxidants appear to enhance blood flow and may help avoid blood clots. Second, guarana has been demonstrated in trials to reduce the oxidation of "bad" LDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol that has been oxidized can lead to plaque build-up in the arteries. People who take guarana may have up to 27% less oxidized LDL than adults of the same age who do not consume this fruit.
As you can see, Guarana is a plant with extremely promising benefits. Because of this, it was absolutely essential to put inside of our formulations. Although it would be nice to advertise our coffee alternative as completely caffeine free, at Oasis, we will never compromise the quality of our ingredients for marketing purposes.
